The longer story
How I got here.
I don't think creativity ever really left me.
It just became something I had to squeeze in.
For years, my life was full in the best and busiest ways. I raised my kids and poured a lot of myself into caring for my family, and later into managing an animal rescue facility. It was meaningful work, and it mattered deeply to me—but it was also constant. There wasn't much room left for anything else, especially something like creativity that required time, space, and a little bit of quiet.
So creativity stayed in the background. Not gone—just waiting. Something I would come back to when I could fit it in, or when I wasn't completely worn out.
Now, for the first time in a long time, life looks a little different.
My kids are grown. I've stepped away from the rescue. And I'm finding myself in a season where I finally have the space to explore something I've always wanted to give more attention to—my creative side.
That's what this is.
Heather's Frame of Mind Studio isn't a polished portfolio or a place where I pretend to be an expert. It's a record of what it looks like to begin again—honestly, imperfectly, and without trying to rush the process.
I'm interested in painting, mixed media, photography, and the process of learning something simply because it matters to me. Some things I make will turn out better than others. Some won't go the way I expect. But I want this space to reflect the real journey, not just the finished results.
At home, I've still got a bit of a rescue situation going on—3 dogs, 6 cats (and a very patient husband)—so life isn't exactly quiet. But it's mine, and for the first time in a long while, I'm making room for creativity in the middle of it.
I'll be honest—this part is a little intimidating.
I'm unsure sometimes. I wonder if I can really make this work, or if I'll ever feel confident in what I'm creating. But I've spent a lot of years showing up for things that mattered, and now I want to see what happens if I show up for this.
Not perfectly. Just consistently.
This space is where I share that process—what I'm making, what I'm learning, what's working, and what isn't. I'm glad you found your way here.
